HIV/AIDS Ministry

The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception has a long history of ministering to those with HIV/AIDS. However, in recent years the activity has lapsed. The Shrine is attempting to re-energize this important ministry and invites anyone with an interest to join us.

The ministry team is currently in the formation process. As our initial activity we attended the AIDS vigil service at the start of Pride Weekend. At present we are networking with agencies in the community that serve the affected and infected to explore how we can support them.

We hope to offer education to members of our parish community, helping to provide a better understanding of the virus, how it is transmitted, and how to prevent it.

If you are interested in joining us in this vital ministry or are aware of someone needing our help, please contact us at the e-mail address below.

Here are some basics about the event:
On Sunday, October 21th, the 17th Annual AIDS Walk Atlanta will unite more than 14,000 men, women and children in the spirit of caring and giving to make a powerful difference in the lives of those infected with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Despite differences in age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or religious beliefs, AIDS Walk Atlanta participants have made this event our community's most powerful and effective response to the AIDS pandemic. We are grateful to the individuals, businesses and community leaders for embracing this effort in the face of what continues to be a devastating public health crisis. Since it's inception in 1991, AIDS Walk Atlanta has enabled Georgia-based AIDS service organizations to provide treatment and medications, prevention education, meals, hospice care, mental health services, child care, substance abuse counseling, pastoral care, and research to help thousands of our families, neighbors and friends.

Today, the spread of HIV and AIDS continues to grow at an alarming rate, especially among young people, women, and people of color in our community. So, how do we overcome these challenges while harnessing hope and turning it into a better reality for all people fighting the disease? The same way that we have come as far as we have - with you.
