Cursillo/Ultreya Cursillo/Ultreya is a movement in the Church to help the laity discover and achieve their calling to live and share what is fundamental to being Christian. Cursillo is a three day short course in Christian living. Ultreya is a monthly follow-up, open to the community, by people who have made a conscious commitment to grow closer to Jesus Christ in accordance with their personal vocation. Cursillo is a Spanish word for "little course". The full name is Cursillos en Christiandad, which means "short course in Christian living". The "Cursillo Movement of the Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta", which presents Cursillo, is a part of a national and worldwide movement, run by the laity of the church and receiving spiritual direction from the religious community of the archdiocese. Cursillo concentrates on how we live our lives as Catholic Christians, by emphasizing our prayer, the way in which we grow in union with Christ; our study, the ways in which we grow in knowledge of Christ; and our action, the way in which we bring others to know Christ. In other words, its design is to facilitate the living and sharing of what is fundamental to being Christian. Cursillo is firmly based in the Word of God, the Sacraments and the Community Life of the Church. The Cursillo is held during a three-day weekend in the fall and winter. To attend, you must be sponsored by someone who has made a Cursillo. There are separate weekends for men and women. Following the weekend are meetings in small groups called "reunion groups" and in a larger group called Ultreya, which is designed to be a "reunion of reunion groups". Ultreya meetings at the Shrine are regularly held at 6:00 PM on the 4th Saturday of each month. The meetings are held at the home of Deacon Bill and Rose Payne. Please join us for the opportunity of adult spiritual growth. You are welcome to join the Ultreya meetings before making a Cursillo weekend. The ongoing commitment of reviewing our prayer, study and action has helped many to experience a profound "Renewal" in their personal walk with Jesus Christ and in their sense of belonging as a member of our community. Do you hear our Lord calling you near? If you are interested in Cursillo or Ultreya, please contact Deacon Bill at dnbill@catholicshrineatlanta.org. |
